Day Retreats

Mind is the essence of everything.

Due to mind's purity, all becomes pure.

Due to mind's clarity, all becomes clear.

The essence of everything is one's own mind.

New Year Mindfulness Based Living: The 8 Week Course

With Mindfulness Africa, Kerri Martinaglia

Saturday 4th February - Sunday 25th March

7 Saturday Mornings from 9am - 11am

Full Day Retreat - Saturday 25th March

“Although assumed to be subject to our conscious control, most of the time our minds shuttle endlessly between the past and the future. Little time is actually spent living in the present. Yet, our capacity to effectively handle stress, to make informed decisions, and to access previously untapped resources and apply them in challenging, fast-paced business situations all rely on our capacity to be present. Quite literally, only when we are in the present can we optimise our capacity to consciously respond to situations rather than simply react, bring greater concentration and focus to work, and to monitor our level of stress and take effective steps to address it.”Centre for Mindfulness, University of Massachusetts

Restorative Yoga

The 'Big Relax' Restorative Yoga Weekend Retreat

With International Teacher and Tara Rokpa Therapist, Pippa Cope supported by Kerri

18th & 19th February 2017

Saturday: 10.30am -5pm

Sunday: 9am - 4pm

R1000 for the full weekend & R600 for one day plus teachers dana/donation for Pippa Cope.

Our culture is built on how productive we can be, how much we can achieve and keep achieving, it can feel as though nothing is ever enough. When we are in this stressful condition the body redirects blood flow away from the internal organs to the peripheral musculature, preparing the body to “fight or take flight.” When this sympathetic response become chronic and habituated it can affect digestion, assimilation and elimination as well as all of the organic processes that cleanse, purify and balance the blood. The deep relaxation of restorative yoga taught over this weekend helps to reverse this process, allowing the muscles to recuperate and release while simultaneously increasing blood flow to the purveyors of all our internal functions. Beginners are welcome.

Mindfulness & Reconnecting with (Our) Nature

A Gentle Mindfulness and Nature Retreat with Bruce and Kerri

Saturday 13th May 2017

9am - 4pm

Cost: R600 plus teachers dana

Mindfulness offers the invitation to come into the freshness of the present moment: knowing what is happening, while it’s happening. Often people mention that the place they are most easily mindful is being in nature, whether it’s walking the dog, on the beach or on holiday in a beautiful environment. Research shows the connection between being in nature and a reduction in feelings of stress and depression and have a positive effect on general health and ability to focus. It is perhaps not surprising that similar benefits are attributed to Mindfulness.

In this retreat we are using the joy of being in nature and alive on this precious earth as a way into learning to rest the mind in the present moment. Through connecting with nature and the earth beneath and around us, we can reconnect with our inner nature as well, touching in with the ground of our being and starting to train in Mindfulness.

The retreat will offer an exploration of Mindfulness both indoors and in the beautiful landscape of the Nkutu valley; inviting us to settle the mind and come home to our body through grounding practices such as the bodyscan and mindful walking. Throughout all of the Mindfulness Africa programs the cultivation of a basic friendliness towards ourselves (and therefore also to others) lies at the heart of our training.                                          For bookings please contact: This email address is being protected from spambots. Sumie Art & Meditation Retreat: 'Making the Brush Dance and The Ink Sing'

A weekend retreat course of Japanese brush painting and meditation with Louis van Loon

Saturday 17th June & Sunday 18th June

9am - 4pm each day

Cost: R1000 plus teachers dana

Japanese brush painting draws its inspiration from Taoist nature mysticism and Zen Buddhism. It employs simple but exquisite tools: a bamboo-stemmed wolf’s hair brush, a hollowed slate in which to liquefy the solid pine-soot ink and absorbent mulberry paper. The brush is wielded with sensitivity and boldness to produce strokes that catch the characteristic nature of the shapes and textures we see around us. We will practise the classical Japanese brush strokes and their application to traditional subjects, from rock ledges and mountain formations to bamboo and flower studies.

Note: This retreat is open to everyone. The posture work is slow and gentle and therefore suitable for complete beginners and those with conditions for which strenuous exercise is not advised.
